The PNL 4WDriving 4WD Sand Course is a comprehensive 2-day, face-to-face training program designed to develop your skills in sand driving, dune navigation, and safe 4WD recovery. This course combines theory, practical exercises, and hands-on driving to ensure participants gain confidence and competence in sandy and coastal terrain.

Course Overview

Whether travelling on beaches, inland dunes, or through the wilderness of South Australia, this course teaches safe techniques, hazard identification, and recovery procedures for challenging sandy conditions. Courses are small-group (maximum 8 vehicles) for optimal instruction. Participants receive a Statement of Attainment on completion.

Locations: Beachport, Robe, and surrounding areas in South Australia

What You’ll Learn

This course equips participants to:

• Drive safely and confidently on beaches and inland dunes

• Prepare vehicles for sand driving, including pre-departure checks

• Understand different transmission types and how to select the correct gear range

• Manage tyre types, tyre pressures, and suspension systems for sandy terrain

• Apply correct vehicle recovery techniques using basic recovery equipment

• Perform hill ascents, descents, and hill stop starts

• Operate effectively in convoys with proper vehicle communications

• Minimise environmental impact during off-road travel
